Make-up can get tricky – what’s with the gazillion products that are marketed to us everyday. If like me, you like to keep it simple and prefer having greener products on your face, here’s a list of chemical-free makeup products that should be part of your makeup bag:
1. Invest in a good quality foundation
Most brands offer a matte or non-matte coverage options in their line-up. Since I have oily skin, I prefer a matte foundation. By matte, I mean the foundation blends in flawlessly with your skin and it doesn’t look ‘cakey’ or ‘makeuppy'(??)
2. Concealer to hide those umm sleepy raccoon eyes and blemishes.
Personally, I use a concealer stick, cuz it’s just quicker and easier to apply on your blemishes. I simply apply wherever necessary and I use my fingers to smudge out the product on my face.
3. Black smudge-free matte black eye pencil and liquid eyeliner

Given that I’m ‘brown’, I have a cultural fixation with ‘kohl’. When I don’t wear it, I actually look under the weather. So yeah, I’ve pretty much experimented with every black eye pencil out there. The one I’ve courted for a few years now is the Prestige intensity pencil and Lakme liquid eye liner – both of which are available at Carrefour.
4. Blush
Preferably a light pink matte colour that I dab on to the lower points of your cheeks using my fingers. Blush has a subtle way of add that extra pop of colour to your face without trying too hard.
5. Lipstick
Experiment with light pinks and reds for starters. Most makeup stores recommend colours that best complement your skin for free so go ahead and add a bit of colour to your lips. Also, dare to go bold instead of the safer pinks. Personally I love oranges and reds.
That’s its folks – 5 essentials in your makeup arsenal are all you need…not so intimidating now eh? Check out this post for a list of natural make up brands that you should switch to.
